The Chapter Check-In

📖 The Chapter Check-In: 08/10/2025

A midweek pause for books, vibes, real life chaos & little comforts

Welcome back to another Chapter Check-In — the little midweek reset where I ramble about what I’m reading, what I’m feeling, and what real life has been throwing my way lately.

This week? It’s been a mix of foggy audiobook listening, cosy home decisions, creative wins, and a few real-life curveballs. Let’s catch up.

📚 Current Book:

Lights Out by Navessa Allen

Format: Audiobook
Genre & Vibe: Dark romance | moody atmosphere, intense energy lurking just beneath the surface
Thoughts So Far: I managed… one chapter. 😅
And honestly? I think I zoned out because I do not remember a single thing that happened. That one’s fully on me, not the book.

do think it has potential though — I just need to rewind and relisten, and maybe stop letting my brain wander off mid-listen. Fresh start pending 🎧✨

🌧️ Midweek Mood

I’ve caved. The heating is officially on. 🔥

I swore I’d hold off until the end of the month, but Storm Amy had other plans. It’s been cold, windy, and I needed those school uniforms dry — and since I don’t have a dryer, the radiators had to step in.

The house feels so much cosier now though, so… honestly? No regrets.

✅ This Week’s Goals

  • 🔁 Rewind one chapter and actually listen to Lights Out
  • 🛒 Make the weekend food shopping list
    • Because 1) I still haven’t done a proper monthly shop
    • And 2) there might be a theme night coming soon 👀✨

🏡 What’s Happening in Real Life

Big creative happy first — my grandma’s Pearl cross stitch is back from the framers and it looks absolutely gorgeous😭💛

This one’s been years in the making, on and off, and that dress pattern became my actual arch enemy… but she’s finally completed. I cannot wait until she hangs it up at hers so I can show you properly. For now, here’s a little sneak peek while it’s still at my mum’s — and yes, I’m giddy happy.

On the practical side… the car went in for its MOT today and it failed. 🙃
BUT it was a quick fix and didn’t cost the earth, so we’re calling that a win.

Also — with World Mental Health Day this Friday, I’m really hoping (🤞) to finally pull together this month’s Theme Dinner Night. The OH’s been struggling a lot lately with his depression, so I want this one to be a little pick-me-up for him 💙

And to end on a wholesome note — as I walked to work this morning, this adorable little squirrel came right up close to me! I got the cutest shot 🐿️💕

My cute new friend 🐿️

📺 What’s Stuck In My Head

House of Guinness — I am loving this series.

Created by the same team behind Peaky Blinders (another all-time fave), I just knew it was going to hook me. The drama, the soundtrack, the whole atmosphere… perfection.

And Episode 3’s bath scene?
WOOOW. 👀🔥
Enough said.

🍫 This Week’s Snack & Sip

Snack:
Chinese takeaway night 🥢
I couldn’t resist — it’s been on my mind all week, and when that craving hits, there’s only one cure. It absolutely hit the spot.

Drink:
Pepsi Max 🥤
Officially back in rotation. Simple, classic, and perfect with everything.

✨ Wrap It Up

This week feels very… settling in. Heating on, creative wins ticking over, small annoyances handled, and gentle plans forming for the weekend. Not perfect, but definitely cosy and comforting.
