A delayed haul with a dramatic twist!
So, I technically bought these beauties at the beginning of the month, but thereās a reason this haul post has taken its sweet time to appear. Iāll spill that bookish tea a little later on ā but for now, letās dive into what I grabbed from my holy grail of bargain books, The Works (aka my place of worship).

⨠The Haul
Mate by Ali Hazelwood

Ohhh, this one was love at first sight. Itās the special edition with a purple metallic title instead of the standard green ā and since purple is my absolute fave colour, I couldnāt resist.
Only downside? The title on the spine completely disappears because itās dark purple on a black background (design flaw 101 š©).
Iāve already read Bride, the first in this world, and adored it. Thereās just something about werewolves that hits the Team Jacob nostalgia button for me ā Iām a total sucker for a broody, loyal wolfman. šŗš
Wild Card by Elsie Silver
Letās be honest ā Elsie Silver is the QUEEN of rugged, emotionally damaged, utterly irresistible cowboys. š¤
Iāve got the first three books sitting pretty on my shelf just waiting to be devoured, and when I spotted Wild Card I didnāt even hesitate. Elsieās books are my go-to comfort reads for when I need a hit of country charm, slow-burn spice, and emotional chaos (in the best way).

Road Trip With A Vampire by Jenna Levine

Okay, confession time: I already own the first two books in this series. So when I saw book three sitting there with its adorable sprayed edges that actually match the cover art, my completionist brain said, āyou need this.ā š§āāļø
Cute vampire romance + aesthetic details = instant add-to-basket moment.
Wells Ranch Series (Books 1ā3) by Bailey Hannah

Iāve seen this series all over Bookstagram, and the hype totally worked on me. When I spotted all three books sitting together on the shelf, I didnāt even think twice.
Cowboys. Ranch life. Romance. Yes please. Itās giving ācountry playlist on shuffle while the sun sets over the fieldā energy, and Iām here for it. š¾š
š¦ Now⦠the reason for the delay
So, remember when I said Iād explain why this haul was late? Well, buckle up.
I was browsing The Works website a few days after my in-store trip and spotted a handful of books I needed ā ones that werenāt in stock locally, some even with special sprayed edges (my weakness). Obviously, my brain screamed ābuy now!ā and off I went.
Fast forward to delivery day⦠I get the dispatch email, excitedly go to save the tracking number, and it shows as already delivered.
Except⦠I hadnāt received anything.
I contacted Evri (and if youāre from the UK, you already know how this story ends š), and sure enough ā turns out the driver stole my package. Yep. My poor, innocent books didnāt even get a chance to live their shelf life.
Thankfully, The Works customer service was amazing and refunded me quickly, but still ā it was such a bookish heartbreak moment. Iāll either try to hunt those titles down in-store soon or maybe risk another online order (with fingers crossed for a different courier this time).
š Wrap It Up
Despite the drama, Iām absolutely in love with the books I did manage to get my hands on. Between the purple shimmer of Mate, cowboy chaos from Elsie and Bailey, and vampire road trip vibes, my October shelf is looking chefās kiss.
Moral of the story: The Works will forever be my happy place ā but Evri, not so much. š
