When we hear the word playtime, most of us instantly time-travel back to childhood.
Running around the park until the streetlights came on. Sitting on the pavement with friends. Losing entire afternoons to toys, games, or whatever imagination-fuelled chaos we were in that day.
Somewhere along the way, a previous generation decided that growing up meant stopping all that.
Play became “unproductive.”
Fun became something you had to earn.
But honestly? I love that so many of us are pushing back on that idea.
Play still exists — it just looks different now.
Console or PC gaming after the kids are in bed.
Board game nights that turn a little too competitive.
Losing hours building a LEGO set just because it makes your brain happy.
For me, playtime is firing up The Sims when I need a proper escape from reality — controlling tiny digital lives while ignoring my own responsibilities for a bit 😌
Other times, it’s jumping on the Xbox and just switching my brain off for a while.
And you know what? That counts.
Play doesn’t disappear when we become adults.
It just evolves — and we’re absolutely allowed to say yes to it.
