A midweek pause for books, vibes, real life chaos & little comforts
The first proper week of the year always feels a bit… wobbly, doesn’t it?
The festive bubble has well and truly popped, routines are creeping back in, and my body is loudly protesting the sudden return to normal. But the books? The books are still showing up for me — and honestly, that’s all I’m asking for right now.
So here’s this week’s little life + reading check-in 💛
📚 Current Book:

Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas
Format: eBook & Audiobook
Progress: ░░░░░░░░░░ 9%
Genre & Vibe: Age gap • taboo-ish tension • slow burn energy • emotional unease but make it addictive
Thoughts So Far: This one has been popping up everywhere in bookstagram reels as a “you HAVE to read this” kind of book — so when it came up on my picker, I just thought… yeah, let’s go.
I’m not very far in yet, but so far I’m intrigued. Definitely feels like one of those books that eases you in before things start getting complicated 👀
😮💨 Midweek Mood
Back to normality now… and wow, my body was not ready for it 😂
The festive haze has officially lifted and reality has clocked back in. I’m tired, adjusting, and slowly convincing myself that routines are a good thing (even if I complain about them first).
✅ This Week’s Goals
- Plan and outline a post about how I actually pick my books 📚🎡
(Yes, the chaos method deserves its own spotlight)
🏡 What’s Happening in Real Life
So… on New Year’s Eve, I got a little tipsy 🍾 and casually booked a 7-day UK staycation for the end of July. Didn’t even ask OH first — just went for it.
When I told him later, he was like: “Oh… okay, cool!”
Honestly? Love that energy.
Now I’m easing myself back into some kind of routine and trying not to let The Works absolutely bankrupt me. They’re currently running a 10-day spreduary special — each day revealing a stunning special edition (either brand new or perfect for finishing collections)… all for £5 a book 😭
Did I cave?
You’ll have to wait and see… we’ve still got two days to go.
I’ve also been spending a lot of time working on something behind the scenes for a June post, and it’s taking over my brain in the best way.

📺 What’s Stuck In My Head
Jane the Virgin
I’ve started rewatching it for the first time in years and honestly… I forgot how GOOD this show is.
The telenovela vibes, the drama, the humour — I’m fully back in and loving every second.

🍫 This Week’s Snack & Sip
Snack: Still a no — I’m very much in a post-holiday food coma phase
Drink: Forever loyal to Pepsi Max 🖤

💬 Final Thoughts
This week feels like a soft reset — easing back into routines, dipping my toes into a new read, and letting life quietly unfold without forcing anything. Not dramatic, not chaotic… just steady.
