(aka: It’s Only January and I’ve Already Lost Control)
So… it’s 10 days into January and I’ve already spent money on books.
New year, same me. No regrets. 😌
If you’ve been anywhere near UK bookish social media lately, you’ll know exactly what happened next…
✨ The Works’ Spredguary Chaos Explained
The Works decided to choose violence (to our wallets) and launched Spredguary —
👉 10 days
👉 10 stunning special editions
👉 £5 each
They started teasing on 29th December, revealing one book per day until the 7th, and honestly? It was like a daily little bookish jump scare of “oh no that’s pretty”.
Some were brand new, some were perfect for completing series, and all had sprayed edges. I was doomed from the start.
Let’s get into what I grabbed… and what I’m planning to grab 👀

🛍️ What I Managed to Get My Hands On (aka: Zero Self-Control)
📖 Watch Me by Tahereh Mafi

I mean… LOOK at that sprayed edge.
That’s it. That’s the reason. Absolutely stunning and instantly justified.

🥃 The Bourbon Boys Series by Victoria Wilder

These were announced three days in a row, and wow did the comments get spicy 🌶️
People were complaining the block colours were “boring”… excuse me??
The sprayed edges match the title colours perfectly and look chef’s kiss together on a shelf.
Honestly: just be grateful and enjoy your £5 pretty books please.

🩸 Beth Is Dead by Katie Bernet

The cover? Gorgeous.
The sprayed edge? Drew me straight in.
The vibes? Dark, intriguing, possibly unhinged — sign me up.

🌴 The Odds of You
This one is just so pretty.
The edge is giving holiday romance, sun-soaked vibes, and I already know it’s going to be a mood read.

⚔️ Three Shattered Souls by Mai Corland

Fun fact: I learned after buying this that it’s book three in a series.
So now I’m on a mission to hunt down books one and two because my brain will not allow chaos on my shelves. 🫠

🛒 Planned Purchases (Future Me Is Already Accountable)
🔥 Dante by Sadie Kincaid

Part of the Chicago Ruthless series, which is already on my TBR.
This beauty releases 29th January, so next payday?
Yes. I will be there.
No. I will not pretend otherwise.
👑 Fearless by Lauren Roberts
The next book in the Powerless series.
Are my existing copies still unread? Yes.
Does that stop me wanting the matching sprayed edge? Absolutely not.
Shelf aesthetics matter. 📚✨

🚫 The One I’m Skipping (Peacefully)
❌ Dear Debbie by Freida McFadden

Nothing personal — I can fully appreciate the pretty sprayed edge, it’s just not one I’m excited about.
And listen… skipping one book is still growth, right? 😅
🏃♀️ Bonus Damage: The “I Was Already There” Books
Because obviously I didn’t just leave with Spredguary books…

🔥 Honor by Danielle Baker

Book 3 in the Sky Ridge Hotshots series.
I already had the first two, so leaving him behind would’ve been rude.
Also: sprayed edge.
Also: matches the others.
Also: I am weak.

🏒 Rewind It Back by Liz Tomforde
I own the rest of the series.
Completionist brain said absolutely not leaving without it.

🤠 Cash by Jessica Peterson

Did I buy it because of the cowboy/western cover?
Yes.
Do I regret it?
Absolutely not.
🌿 Freeing the Wild by Paisley Hope
Another series-completer and another pretty sprayed edge.
Honestly, these books are attacking me personally.

☎️ First Time Caller by B.K. Borison

I’ve heard so many good things about this one, and it felt like the perfect excuse to add just one more to the ever-growing TBR.
(What’s one more when you’re already drowning, right?)
💭 Final Thoughts
Was this sensible?
No.
Was it joyful?
Extremely.
Spredguary has absolutely set the tone for 2026 reading, and my shelves are already looking prettier for it. My TBR, however, is now staring at me with judgement.
💬 Come Chat With Me
Did Spredguary tempt you too?
Which book reveal had you sprinting to The Works?
Are you team “read the unread books first” or team “pretty edges first, logic later”?
Let me know — I love enabling… I mean, discussing. 💕📚
