If I could un-invent one thing, it would be modern social media — and more specifically video-based platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.
And honestly? I’ve seen so many responses to this prompt and the majority say the exact same thing… which kind of says it all.
I’m part of the generation that saw the start of social media.
MySpace. Bebo. MSN Chat.
The early days of Facebook and Instagram — when you updated a status, uploaded a blurry selfie, or shared photos from a night out with your mates.
You weren’t being endlessly analysed.
You weren’t hyper-aware of how you looked, sounded, or moved.
You posted… and that was that.
(Though let’s be real — looking back now, some of those early-mid 00s fashion choices were criminal 😅)
But here’s the thing — social media didn’t replace real life back then.
We still went outside.
We met friends face-to-face.
We were trusted to be home by the time the street lights came on.
Now everything feels performative. Filtered. Constantly judged.
And I can’t help but miss the balance we used to have — where social media existed alongside real life, not instead of it.
Anyway… that’s my un-invention.
